Privacy Policy

The short version: TalkingKey runs entirely on your Mac. Your voice is transcribed on-device and never uploaded. There are no accounts, no tracking, and no analytics. The only personal data we ever touch is what's needed to sell you a license and answer your emails.

1. Who we are

2. What we do NOT collect

No user account and no login.
No analytics, tracking pixels, advertising IDs, or usage telemetry.
No recordings or transcripts sent to us or to any third party.

3. Your voice and audio

Audio is captured only while you hold the push-to-talk key. It is processed locally by the on-device Whisper engine (whisper.cpp) and used solely to produce your text. Audio is held in memory for the duration of transcription and is not written to permanent storage, and it is never transmitted off your device.

4. Transcribed text

The resulting text is inserted into whichever app you were using, via the clipboard, and your previous clipboard contents are restored immediately after. We do not log, retain, or transmit your transcribed text.

5. Network connections the app makes

TalkingKey works offline for transcription. It does make a small number of network requests unrelated to your speech:

Speech model download (first run): the Whisper model file is downloaded once from Hugging Face (huggingface.co). This transfers the model to you and sends no personal data beyond the standard request metadata (such as your IP address) inherent to any download.
Update checks: the app periodically checks talkingkey.com for a new version. This reveals your IP address and current app version to the update server, as is standard for software updates. No other data is sent.

6. Purchases and licensing

Payments are processed by our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy, acting as the Merchant of Record. They collect and process your name, email address, and payment and billing/tax information under their own privacy policy (lemonsqueezy.com/privacy). We receive your email address and a license key so we can deliver the product, validate your license, and provide support. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

7. Support

If you email us for support, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to help you and keep it no longer than necessary.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the EU GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the limited personal data we hold, and to object to its processing. To exercise any of these, email hello@talkingkey.com. For payment data, requests may need to be directed to our payment provider as the Merchant of Record.

9. Children

TalkingKey is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
